    Things to pack

Leave everything loaded except parishable food and clothing you will need before you go out again. The more you leave loaded, the easier getting ready becomes and you will enjoy it more! Also the less stuff you will forget.

    Handgun question

Yep! Revolvers don't have this problem, if it is a problem. Just keep the hammer on an empty chamber for safety.

    Big Storms

Storm at sea! My most fearful storm was on Green Bay, Wisc. in a 36' full-keel sailboat we were bareboating for a week. We were about 2 miles from shore when a gale formed and we could not outrun it. We sailed into it trying to get away from shore as far as possible. It was severe with hail...

Missouri River Wild and Scenic, Montana

I am planning a 149 mile canoe trip on the Missouri Wild and Scenic section in Montana between Fort Benton and the Kipp Rec. Area in July or August, 2011. Has anyone on this forum done this trip? If so would appreciate any comments you might have to help me in my planning.

One more question re: Old Town Penobscot 16RX canoe

I need to know if the above mentioned canoe has a "stiff" bottom that doesn't "oil can" or bulge up when loaded? I want a Royalex boat that has the specs of this canoe but am wondering if the 58lb. weight means a lightweight layup with a flexing bottom. Comments from owners or paddlers please?

    We-no-nah Canoes

I am looking for a lighter tandem canoe under 70 lbs in Royalex. I need a good glide and some manuverability. Am considering several brands. Do any of you paddle a We-no-nah Spirit 11, Solo Plus, or Adirondack. These seem to meet my needs but would love some user opinions! I am leaning...

    Need some tent advice

Look into Eureka Timberline. Easy to set up, comes in several sizes, I have used them for years and love them, ie: a 2man and 4man. They also have a larger "base camp" model. Good prices in Campmore catalog!

    Correct Way Of Paddling

If it was on a flowing river the boater might have been "ferrying" (dont know if I spelled that right). This involves setting the boat at the proper angle to the current and with easy strokes on one side the current will help propel you across. It really works!

    This ever happen to you?

I had a copperhead snake drop into the canoe one time. That was enough! It was a race to the shore to see who could leave the canoe the quickest! Happened on the Buffalo River in AR.

    Atchafalaya River

Sounds a little like canoeing on the Missouri! I haven't canoes the Mississippi, but it probably has similar water conditions.

    Sunshield for Canoe

Would'nt be very practical in the Ozarks. On open water the wind would be a problem and on rivers a low hanging tree branch would soon grab it and create great problems!

    First Canoe Trip

You can always tell a "newby", they are bouncing off of one bank then the other! Also they constantly switch sides while paddling as they haven't learned any paddle strokes other than the forward stroke! Good memories!

I know it is one of you

What an amazing boat! I would spend all my time looking down into the water as the surface glare would be gone. What fun!
