I have never been in a survival situation per se but I have had several encounters with bears. During my 2006 backpack trip to the Kenai in Alaska I had four bear encounters in one week, one of which I was able to get on video.

I've been in several survival situations. Yeah, they were thrilling. But they were only fun when they were over.

I have had only about 8 hours once when I thought I might freeze to death.
Otherwise it was just horse wrecks, windy boat trips and lots of wildlife encounters.
I have encountered 4 bears at a time on several occasions. Nine or ten in a day. And weeks with 20 or more encounters, but that is in Alaska where they can be everywhere.

The trick is to avoid the survival experiences.
