Purifying water with a filter

I'm going on a trek soon. The only sources of water on the way is an old abandoned well halfway and a slow flowing stream in the forest. The way I decided to purify the water is by boiling it in my aluminum canteen for a few minutes, then pouring it in my nalgene bottle. Whenever I need a sip, use a LifeStraw filter to drink the water. I'm unable to get my hands on any water filtration tabs or chlorine drops. The LifeStraw is all dat I have with me right now. Is there any better way to purify the water? Please advise

Life straw is supposed to be good for six logs, (.02 micron) so boiling and life straw should do it. But make sure the water has cooled before using the life straw. Hot water collapses the filter media and blocks passage. You might consider two bottles, drinking from one while the other cools. I would also pre filter the water through a coffee filter or fine cloth. Boiling won't remove the larger particulates which may clog the straw.
