17 bullets to kill a deer???

Have you guys heard about this? A deputy sheriff had to shoot a deer 17 times because he didn't know where the heart was. Obviously, he'd never been hunting! GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A sheriff's deputy in Gainesville had to fire 17 shots to put down a deer hit by a car. The Alachua sheriff's...

    Camping On The Beach

The best location hands down is Shackleford Island along the outer banks of North Carolina. You have to take a boat to it, and you can camp anywhere. There are wild horses on the island. Fore more information, visit Wild Horses of Shackleford Banks

    Campsites or really roughing it?

Roughing it ... I prefer to hike in and hike out. When I go camping, especially alone, I don't want to see anyone else. I don't even want to be able to hear them on a nearby trail.

To Have a Picnic or To Grill Out?

    I'd rather cook.

    Driving to Camp Sites

I like our Honda CRV ... it's light and maneuverable, yet has 4WD and is tough enough tackle rugged off-roads.

    Survivor Man

In addition to his show episodes, there's the two-hour pilot he filmed (it's what eventually got him the show). They're only on DVD, but you can also download the torrents. You should look for it. I loved it ... I think there are two of 'em. One winter and one summer.

    Camping Stoves vs Campfires

I use both. I usually cook meat over the fire ... or sometimes something in a big pot. For the rest -- coffee, sides, etc. -- I'll use the one-burner stove.

    Radio by the campfire

I usually camp so far away from everyone else, no one could hear my radio even if I turned it up all the way. Sometimes I even howl at the moon.

    Taking frozen meat?

I usually carry two frozen game hens (one for me, one for my wife). By the end of the first night, they're usually just perfect to go over the fire. Sometimes they're still a little "solid", but they cook up nicely. Just have to make sure that as they thaw, they're not going to drip juices on...

    Staying comitted to camping trips

I've camped in the pouring rain several times ... once I set my mind to a trip, there's not much that can stop me from going. Mostly, because it's so hard for me to get the days off from work.

Surviving With What's In Your Car

I'm in the same boat. In the trunk, I have just about everything I'd need for a typical two- or three-day camping trip. Mostly, it's because I never know when I'll get the itch to go camping, and I want to be able to jet off right away. But, hey, I could also use it to survive for probably a...

    Eating in the tent?

I've had to eat in my tent before ... pouring North Carolina rain had a little something to say about it. I've never had much trouble keeping my tent clean, although I'm sure that's about to change with a kid on the way. Until now, I've usually gone solo camping. My feet, my shoes, my mess. LOL

    Sleeping In Hammocks

Although I've never slept overnight in a hammock, I've take many a mid-day naps in the things. I've always been comfortable. The next time I go out solo, I'm taking my new hammock with me.

How to be safe in mountain biking?

Practice, practice, practice. Firstly, practice on trails that have smaller uphills and downhills. Work your way up to the big stuff. Also, read this OutdoorBasecamp.com article on trail riding: Outdoor Basecamp - Trail biking a solid alternative or stepping stone to hitting the mountain
