    Heading into a national forest.

So, I'm switching jobs in a few weeks, and there's going to be a short span of downtime for me. I've decided to take that time to load up the backpack and head into Eldorado National Forest in norther California. It's the kind of camping where you "choose your own site." As long as least 100...

    Fire or shelter?

If you were in a sticky situation and probably only had time for one, would you go fire or shelter? With a shelter, you'd likely succeed, but you could be quite cold, although dry. If you spend your time trying to make a fire, you might get one going and be warm, but it could still rain...

    Pain from the bike seat

I love trail bike riding, but I often experience pain after a long ride from my bike seat. Sometimes after a long ride, I have trouble sitting down after because of pain in my tailbone area. I'm a pretty stocky guy ... athletic with a lot of upper-body bulk. I was wondering if there were any...

    Favorite part of the country?

I've camped and hiked in the souteast and northwest, both beautiful places. Although I feel more at home in the southeast, I'd have to say the northwest gets the outdoors edge. The ability to have mountains and surf in the same eyesight is amazing.

    Ideal camping trip

If you could camp anywhere in the world, somewhere you've only dreamed of being able to visit, where would it be? For me, I think I'd like to try a lengthy, migratory trip in the Mediterranean region of Europe. I'd also like to visit the great outdoors of northern Africa.

    California State Parks

Are there many people from California on here? Some may know, but as a measure to reduce the budget deficit, California is considering closing 220 state parks. This would, I think, be devastating to outdoors enthusiasts in the state. Sure, there are nationals parks and regional/county parks...
