    Unusual ingredients

That's interesting. I have some weird sauce things that my sister-in-law gave us and we've had no idea what to do with them. I'll have to try putting them into recipes just to see what happens.

    Wimped out

I'm sort of hanging my head in shame here. A buddy of mine wanted me to go on a trek today and I wimped out. It's just too darn cold today and I don't want to move off the couch, let alone walk up a mountain with the stiff wind that's blowing. I must be getting old.

    Hunting Tips For The Beginner

Whether you use a bow or a gun is entirely dependent on which weapon you prefer and are most proficient at. I also second the recommendation of taking a hunter safety course.

Going Duck Hunting With My Girl's Father!

The trip is over so my advice is moot, but I have to say, my first thought was you better hope the guy likes you and you haven't wronged his daughter in any way, shape or form! Hunting accidents aren't always accidental, you know.

    Alcohol and sporting events

Honestly, I've long thought that serving alcohol at public events like this is a recipe for disaster. I know fights break out by sober people, too, but incidents are far more likely when you add alcohol to the mix. If you want a beer while you watch the game, you should stay home and watch it...

    Final kayak day this year...

I spent the morning kayaking along the coast with my buddies. This is the final time the kayaks will be out this year so we spent some time paddling and then inspecting them for any issues. I tell you what, though, it was darn cold out on the ocean this morning!

    Would you eat a snake?

I'll try most anything once. I haven't had any kind of snake meat yet, but heck, yeah, I'd eat them if I was hungry. Westerners are far too particular about where their meat comes from today.

    weekend chicker

Oo-wee, that sure looks good, Cappy. I am going to do what you said with the marinade next time I do something like this. I've been tossing it out due to fear of contamination. I can't believe I never thought to just cook off any bacteria! You may have posted this before but I haven't seen...

    Salmon Stew

A whole gallon of milk? One can of salmon actually is enough for all that milk? I'm all for simple, but that sounds like it would be watered down, flavor-wise. I've never thought of trying salmon chowder, but I'll have to play around with it now, as I do like salmon.

    Banana Smores

I like bananas and chocolate, but to make something like that and call it a s'more is sacrilege. I think sticking it into the fire for five minutes will result in a lovely, banana-smelling coal, too.

Easy way to clean bony fish?

For example, I enjoy pickerel, but they are so bony! I end up either letting them go or passing them to a cousin who is much better at getting the bones out. He thinks it is funny so he won't show me how he does it - he's been picking on me about this since I was a kid. Is there an easier way...

    PETA Launches Drone Fleet

PETA is a farce and hypocritical beyond belief, to begin with. What gives them the right to monitor anyone? They're not a government organization or a group with any kind of legitimate authority. I see a drone and they're first going to get a view of my backside, then they get used for target...

volunteer on the hikes we love

To be honest, I hadn't even thought to ask if there is a volunteer program here for that sort of thing. I may look into it, because like you, we always pick up trash as we hike or stroll the beach.

    Anyone get a deer yet?

Bows are allowed now, but no firearms until Dec. 2 here in Massachusetts and regular shotguns are only allowed through Dec. 14. Maine's season starts Nov. 4, so I'm getting a non-resident license and going up there at least a couple times.

What did you do with your Sweetest?

I don't recognize Hallmark holidays. They invent those things just to sell more cards and over-priced gifts. Valentine's Day is traditional - why mess with a good thing?

    Not the furnace too!

Actually, you probably don't have to replace the furnace as it sounds like you have a clog. You should have a professional come in to clean it and check it out, though, before winter truly arrives.

    Late Fall?

The leaves are changing, but aren't fully changed over yet, up here in the northeastern corner of Massachusetts. It's getting quite cold at night, but our days have stayed up in the 60s to 70s, for the most part.

Ever thought of backpacking across Europe?

I guess this is a pretty popular idea with young people today, usually over the summer before going off to college. Apparently, it's today's version of 'doing the continent'. I'd never be able to do this now, given my age and the fact that I have a family and responsibilities, but I'm kind of...

    Best pot roast recipes?

Hikenhunter, are you confusing this member with another? I only see three posts for blueridgelover and none of them say anything about being vegan. Maybe there is another member with a similar name?

    feisty squirrels help

It just might be time to trap and relocate. 'Bout the time a squirrel chases a cat across my lawn, I'm going to get rid of that squirrel one way or the other. Hmmm. Squirrel is pretty good eating, you know, even though the bones are a pain.
