2017 was a great year for us. Two years ago, just before Christmas, Grandma was diagnosed with stage 4 mutated melanoma. Her vitals were riddled with lesions. Fortunately, she was accepted at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, and because of her previous excellent health, she qualified for some new immunotherapy treatment. That stuff really knocked her cancer for a loop. After three months, they switched to the more common stuff you hear advertised on TV now. For 16 months we had to travel to Salt Lake every three weeks for her infusions. They were discontinued in May of this year and in July she was declared in full remission with no expectations of any comeback. This immunotherapy is doing wonders for people with small cell cancers. Of course, the better health you have going in, the faster the recovery. I recommend to anyone, if the doctor says the C word, don't settle for just any specialist, get to one of the major Cancer centers as fast as possible. They are curing a lot of stuff nowadays.

I played around with a regional hospital and its specialists for three years, then got accepted at Huntsman and the treatment did a full 180. After operations and radiation, my original doctors were going to start me on the chemo but the Huntsman doctors took a different approach and I'm nearly as healthy now as I've been the last 5 years since mine started. IT WAS A GREAT YEAR, and I'm looking forward to an even better 2018.
