Concerning food rations while on the road - what do you prefer: fresh packed food that can survive the time you are planning to spend on the road or dried rations?
Always fresh "on the road" I have a small soft sided cooler with a couple waters and snacks that I rarely leave home without, other than that I can last as long as my gas tank does so re-fueling just becomes a grocery stop as well.
For the kind of trips we take, fresh works just fine. We're not gone for really long periods of time. The main thing is to have water handy. We keep plenty of that on hand.
Always fresh. That dry stuff is never any good, even if it's convenient to bring and easier to pack. I also bring snacks that can last a few weeks without problem, chips, nuts, etc.
Dehydrated or freeze dried food and MRE's are okay if you are in the position of having to eat and don't have any alternatives, But they taste like crap. Drag in some fresh veggies and kill the local animals. Yummy!
