Black iron on the stove, sweety pie out weeding the flower beds, and I ma minding supper and bending notes wishing we still had a beer drinking smiley but we don't so heres one with my ole straw h:Yo:at.

The place seems deader than when I started coming here. There appears to be a lot of lurkers but few participants. Some threads are still sitting at the top of their forum and there have been no posts for months.

I came here originally because the Backpacker forum was full of contentious jerks and I got sick of a simple gear discussion turning into a flame war. But this place has slowed down a lot and I noticed it well before the format change.

There is usually a 20-30% decrease during the summer. Add to the fact that pimping the site out on facebook has all but become impossible unless you want to spend a bunch of money, with a side of I haven't found anyone to make any video's for the youtube account so that has also brought in less traffic. However search engine traffic is actually up slightly, without working the numbers I would say about 5% since the update. That should get slightly better with a faster server with less downtime.

But then forums have more competition then when I first started. Facebook and reddit have taken away visitors to forums in general making starting one up that much more difficult.

lol. That is the exact same reason why I came here!

The Backpacker forum was awful. You couldn't post anything without people trying to start an argument, pick you apart, or flame you.

I have to confess I have not been posting as much as I should and will post more. This is a good forum and I don't want it to fall apart.

I personally have had to take a break from internet forums in general. At least a couple of the most popular internet forums have been completely removed by their retail corporation owners. One has since reemerged, but totally started over from square one (Bass Pro Shop). Another after being without moderation for better than a year, and consequently being over run by literally hundreds of spam posts per day (most containing offsite links to pay-per-click scams, pornography, illegal merchandise, spy-ware, phishing-ware, and many other forms of mal-ware) has been removed from existence (Cabela's).

Internet forums in general it seems are being replaced by the far inferior likes of FaceBook, Twitter, Insta-gram, and Pinterest... all of which require much less thought and credibility to participate in.

I remember the lyrics of a song from the early 80's.... "Video killed the radio star..."

Facebook is killing internet talk forums.... at least in terms of their popularity and numbers of followers.

I hate facebook and will not join it. What I love about forum format, is its topic specific for the most part, and people into the topic participate for the most part. My wife is into face book and complains about all the much to do about nothing. I visit and post on 8 or more forums because if I want to talk outdoors for a while this is the place. Local fishing another forum. BBq smoking country boy stuff a couple. Gardening again. What I need or want to talk about at the time. Do not give up on this forum. Jason can tell ya, folks leave, and find out they were wrong, and come back. I know of a certain BBQ forum, that went from only the owners weekly pass by to the busiest one I frequent. This is an outdoors forum full of outdoors lovers, I know I have unpluged and went to work in a no cell phone no internet zone for months at a time and it was still here when I got back.

DITTO THAT!!!

There aren't enough words to describe how much I loath FaceBook!!! Or how absolutely foolish many people's level of participation on that privacy robbing socialist debacle is... I just hope they wake up soon and spit out the purple Kool-Aid.

Facebook is what you make of it. I use to reconnect with old military friends. It's not something to post your issues on. Something that a lot of people do.

Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and pretty much any other social site are all the same, to include forums. Anyone who posts anything on the internet is compromising their privacy. Don't post what you don't want used against you later. It's all a gamble!

I have no intentions on giving up. I may be busy at the moment but I do try and swing by. As long as someone is willing to post or read my ramblings the site will be here.

I apologies for my absence but me and the crew are starting a move to the big city.
The "new" place has to be remodeled and renovated so after 5 it is back to painting and laying carpet.
