Primitive Cordage

Has anyone ever tried to make primitive cordage?

I took the corn leaf coverings off of some tamales and let them dry and am stripping the leaves to learn how to make cordage. The lengths I have made so far are very strong.

The book 'Primitive Skills and Crafts', by Richard Jamison, has a section on cordage and I am trying to follow his techniques.

Anyone else tried to make cordage?

I used to make cordage from flax stems just for fun. I didn't use it for anything...just a way of entertaining myself on summer afternoons on my grandpa's farm.

I've braided honeysuckle vines (when I was MUCH younger). They are surprisingly strong. Other than that, no.

I really haven't gotten into making primitive cordage...however, your trials with corn leaves sound promising.
