So I found this little post on instructables and decided to make my own.

It charges the AA batteries in about 8 hours of sunlight. Once charged, I can slip the charger in my pocket and use it to recharge a phone or other mobile device later in the day. Great battery backup for backpacking in case I need to use my phone for an emergency. Also, it's a decent AA battery charger I can use in case the power goes out. I can use the batteries for weather radios, flashlights, LED lanterns, etc.

Total cost for materials was about $18 before shipping.

So far it's doing fine. I need to replace the old Energizers with some better batteries. These are a few years old and aren't what they used to be. Even so, they can still get my iPhone back up from zero charge. I've been using it while on the road (trucking) and it's great. Haven't had a chance to take it on a multi day adventure yet.

I plan on making another one with 3 AA batteries instead of 2, just for increased capacity.
