The great basin rattlers we have around here are good swimmers so I say yes. Opening day of fishing season many years ago, we were on the bank of a local reservoir. Someone saw a strange wake moving toward us on the water surface. It was a good size rattlesnake and from its direction must have swam about a half mile. Fishermen on the far shore had probably spooked it into the water.

I suppose this depends on your definition of 'swimming'. Hippos do seem to do swimmingly in the water.

I've seen quite a few hippos and the only one not in the water was in a zoo. I don't know if they were swimming or just wading. There must have been 30-40 of them in a lake in Tanzania.

just guessing but I kinda think hippos are so fat the water is comfortable for em and supports their weight and skeeters dont bite under water. As far as rattlers swiming of course they do they live in the deep swamp around here they dont like to and dont often but they can.
