It's a bank sinker. Great for use in moving water for a limb line. Keeps the bait from being pulled over to the shore line.

we call them bell sinkers.
Good one. Many years ago I was out fishing for Silver Carp with a buddy of mine and he cast out with one of those sinkers on his line. The sinker allowed for a pretty long cast and it flew out to the middle of the river coming down just as a carp was jumping out of the water. The sinker hit that carp right square on the head. You could hear the thump. My buddy said: "What the....?". My reply was: "That's not exactly the way you're supposed to use those sinkers." This, of course, was followed by a fit of laughter.

neva heard that one jason if it had an eye to tie ya string to and was made of lead it was a sinker pyramid, tear drop, or home made if it sunk it was a sinker
