I've always used a product called Dubbin to do my boots with. It really stands up to the seacoast conditions I tend to find my feet traipsing through, and that it smells of bacon fat doesn't exactly offend me.

Does anyone else use this stuff?

I have been hiking many years, but I have not heard of this product. Thanks for posting the information about it. The bacon scent is the main selling point for me.....!

Nikwax!
I think if my boots smelled like bacon I'd have to hang them in the bear bag at night.

Nikwax works especially well on rough out leather (suede) and breathes quite well. Water just beads and rolls off.
