Camping tip of the day: Check your vehicle for acorns/pine cones if you are camping in the fall. I was camping in the Black Hills a few years ago and one of the other campers had about 2 bushels* of pine cones in his engine compartment!
We have this resident squirrel at our place that seems to have struck the jackpot. About once a week, we have to clear away the large pile of pine cones that have been dropped to ground under one tree in particular.
That was either one ambitious little squirrel or a whole lot of squirrel relatives. That's a whole lot of acorns. Poor little guys are going to starve this winter though.
Critters are expert at finding homes and grainerys. Parked my old wood hauling pickup for the winter. Next spring when I started it, it was running doggy. Mice had filled the entire air intake system with wheat, they had gleaned from a nearby field. Pulled about a bushel and a half out of the intake ducts.
