Who has a pond on their property?

A friend is currently building her dream house and it comes with a smaller pond on the land but they are going to have really fix it up. Does anyone have experience with draining and restocking a pond?

Why are they draining it? Are there unwanted species of fish in it?

My parents don't have a big pond. They do have a smaller pond and it is quite the hassle to upkeep! They pay someone to drain it and clean it out. You also have to watch because ponds do tend to draw out some unwanted critters. My parents have traps set up all over their backyard because of that.

I have a small pond on my property. It's stocked with Bass and Bream. We don't fish it much anymore, however when my boys were growing up we fished it all the time. Mostly catch and release. We also camped and had many cookouts by the pond. I expect my grandchildren will learn to fish and camp at the pond just like their dads did.
