Duck Lake State Park

Duck Lake State Park is an ideal location for daytime activities in Michigan. This park is located in Muskegon County along the Lake Michigan shoreline. It features 728 acres of beautiful forest land and open brush, and it also has a magnificent sand dune. The park extends from the northern shore of Duck Lake west to the coast of Lake Michigan. The state of Michigan purchased the land for the park in 1974 and officially dedicated the park in 1988. This state park has been an ideal spot for outdoor recreation for families and individuals for several decades.

Activities at the Park

Visitors to the Duck Lake State Park can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. In the summer, visitors can hike, fish, or hunt. Winter activities include ice fishing and cross country skiing.

During the summer months, Duck Lake is a very popular picnic spot for families. The park has a picnic pavilion, several picnic tables around the lake, and a half-mile trail on the north side of the lake. The trail is paved, making it easily accessible for all members of the family. Finally, the park also has a boardwalk that connects Duck Lake with Lake Michigan to the west. This is a beautiful hike that provides breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.

The park also allows fishing. Fishermen will enjoy Duck Lake’s large populations of rock bass, pan fish, crappie, and other fish. Fly fishing is also a popular sport at this lake, especially in the early summer months. The park has a readily accessible boat launch for fishermen or simply people looking to enjoy a day out on the water.

Additionally, the Duck Lake State Park allows hunting during certain times of the year. The park has plentiful wildlife such as rabbit, pheasant, duck, squirrel, geese, and white-tailed deer. Be sure you are up-to-date on Michigan hunting laws before hunting in this park.

In the winter, visitors to the park can enjoy ice fishing on Duck Lake, cross country skiing on nearby trails, and even snowmobiling. Because the park has fewer visitors during the winter months, a winter visit to the park may also give you the chance to see more wildlife. The park is particularly serene and calm when covered in snow.
