Surfing, swimming, beach combing for shells, building sand castles, and kite sailing are all favorite beach activities at Mustang Island State Park. Many choose to just relax on the beach while listening to the lull of the waves while soaking in the sun’s warmth.

2. Bird Watching: Resident and Migratory Species

Mustang Island State Park offers rewarding bird watching especially in the spring and autumn seasons. Resident species include roseate spoonbills, gulls, egrets, herons, and many others. Migratory species include orioles, warblers, fly catchers, and hummingbirds. Bird watchers can enjoy thousands of migratory and resident birds at Mustang Island State Park. 3. Beach Fishing

Visitors can get up early in the morning and cast lines from the beach. A variety of species abound to tempt anglers to include: red snapper, speckled and sand trout, red fish, skip jack, drum, croaker, sheepshead, gafftop, and many others.

4. Seaside Primitive Tent Camping

A large beach area is available at Mustang Island State Park for tent camping. Call ahead to ensure that beach camping is allowed when you plan to visit. High tides can make beach side camping inaccessible.

5. Multi-Use Campsites

Mustang Island State Park also has 48 multi-use campsites with water and electricity hookups available. The beach is a close walk to the campsite. A picnic table and fire pit is connected to each site.

6. Facilities, Location, Schedule, and Fees

Facilities include a store, restrooms, showers, picnic arbors, and a dump station. Mustang Island State Park is 14 miles south of Port Aransas on Texas 361. The park is open 7 days a week year round. There is an admission fee of 4 dollars per person above the age of 13. Beachside tent camping is 8 dollars per night. RV camping sites with electrical and water hookups cost 16 dollars per night.
