There is much to like and enjoy about hiking. What do you enjoy the most about it? For me, I like the idea of travelling at a natural pace on my own steam.
I never have, but it sure sounds like a blast. It would be a fun thing for the kids to work on sometime when we're out camping and they're looking for something to do.
Much of the interior of Idaho is still wilderness. It's wilderness for a reason though. It's incredibly rugged country. If you've read about Lewis and Clark, you know crossing Idaho gave them fits!
Have you considered Smokey Mountain National Park? It's not too far from Florida, and it would be big change of scenery for you. Weather might still be a little brisk at night now.
I have some old rain gear that is losing its water repelling ability. Is there a good product you can recommend that I could maybe spray on it to revive it?
WD40 pretty much cures what ails you as far as mechanical gizmos. I like the bacon grease approach too! If I'm not mistaken, wasn't WD40 developed by NASA for use in space??
I agree. There are many levels of camping. Not everyone is inclined to go the "hard core" route, and not everyone is able, either. That shouldn't preclude anyone from enjoying the outdoors.
Ocean fishing can be quite daunting and the gear involved can be quite costly. I think that freshwater fishing is so much easier and so much more do-able for most people.
I had a smoker for a long time when I lived on the coast. I used it exclusively to smoke salmon, which I used to catch lots of when I lived there. Soul food!
You're a braver soul than I am. I would take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I've learned enough from home improvement projects that there's usually more to than meets the eye.
Moleskin is a staple in my knapsack. Sometimes the particular terrain I am hiking will put enough of a little stress in a certain spot on my foot. Usually moleskin alleviates the problem.
I had not heard of these until just now. My son has an awful foot odor problem that nothing seems to help so I will mention these to him. (Maybe we'll ALL be appreciative!)
