    Ghillie suit.

As most of you pointed out, I was also under the impression that ghillie suits were intended to mask the wearer from other human beings, but I'm no expert so I thought it was worth a question. Thanks for the answers.

    I want one of these!

Well heck, I could just get a tank and hit targets at 10 to 15 miles away. Wonder what they'll come up with next. I'm thinking a rifle that can be controlled with an iPhone :).

    Going barefoot?

I know going barefoot is not a new invention, by new I meant that I didn't know people were hiking this way, at least not anywhere in the developed world. Also, his feet didn't look like they were adapted to anything harder than a grassy trail.

    Sleeping bag for summer ONLY

I'd like to point out that temperatures next to running water a few degrees cooler, I found that out the hard way. Packing a warmer sleeping bag might seem like a nuisance and chances are you won't need it, but I'd rather stick my leg out of the bag because it's hot than have to huddle next to...

    Going barefoot?

Apparently there's a whole barefoot thing going around and nobody told me. I was out hiking on Sunday and meet a guy who was walking barefoot. Of course I wen't over and asked him if he was lost and if he needed some help. He looked at me like I was crazy and said no he was fine, why? I pointed...

    Ghillie suit.

I noticed a couple of people hunting with ghillie suits and it got me thinking, does it have any real benefits? Most game animals have poor eyesight, they rely on their noses and ears for detection. Wouldn't just regular cameos and scent masker be as effective?

    Camping Like You're Surviving

I'm well aware of the fact that a lot of the battery is drained in search mode, but you know most phones have an off switch right? Turning it on every couple of miles should solve your battery concerns. Concerning the no coverage issue, I didn't say a cell phone should be your only safety line...

    Camping Like You're Surviving

If you don't have cell reception, than you're filling one of the requirements of "camping like you're surviving" so there's no harm in having one around. But if the nearest help was 20 miles away and after a 10 mile hike I'd have reception, I'd prefer to not have to hike the extra 10 miles if...

    Disinfecting your drinking water...

Ok, this seemed a little too good to be true. After a quick search I found out it was actually a legitimate way of purifying water, but I'd like to add that while it kills bacteriological contaminants it will not remove other non organic toxic material. Another thing to consider is the fact that...

    Camping Like You're Surviving

I can think of a dozen reasons why that would be a bad idea. I'm not saying take a laptop with you and spend the whole trip working, but if the brown stuff hit's the fan, you'll sure be grateful for that cell.

    New Gear Mfg.

Congratulations Grandpa, I never win anything. To be honest I almost won a SAK a few years ago, they missed me by a number. Anyway I went out and bought the model, as one can never have too many SAK's.

    Sage in a campfire?

Over the years I've heard a ton of remedies against mosquitoes, like for example walnut leaves, but I've yet to see one that works as advertised. Best I can tell is if the mosquitoes prefer your blood, you'd better get a bottle of repellent.

    Mermaids

Never heard of this one before, although from an evolutionary standpoint mermaids don't really make sense. Most creatures evolve to cope with their surroundings in the most efficient manner possible and hands cannot be considered an efficient limb in an aquatic environment.

    Paying for a Guide?

It really depends on where I am. If I'm familiar with the environment, I don't see the point. However if I'm out of my element, like a jungle or the savanna and I'm going into mostly uncharted territory, then yes.

    Walkie-talkies.

Do you still get any use out of yours? I usually pack them when we are out hiking in very remote country, but on most trails I get a full signal on my cell.
