This is a type of rattlesnake that is indigenous to the Great Lakes area. I had not seen one in twenty years but I knew they were here. Today, the guy who leases a part of my land says he not only saw one, he took a picture of it. He says it was three feet long and rattling when he uncovered it in a woodshed.
Most interesting since we have copperheads and moccasins. Timber rattlers are supposed to be here but I've only seen one and I ate it over thirty years ago. It was delicious.
The Massasauga is a very reclusive beast and very seldom seen. I am waiting for the pictures and when I get them I will post them. I know where it is but I will try not to hunt it down and effect its' demise. One thing I do know about this snake is that it is very hard to get it to strike. I don't want to kill it. I'd like to see it and possibly relocate it.
