    ATV Accident

Those darn things are really dangerous. You might not have heard, but Ozzy Osbourne nearly killed himself on an ATV. He was in a coma for quite some time.

Chasing off seals ... what do you think about this?

IF the seals present a health hazard or physical danger to the children, and there is somewhere to relocate them, then I see nothing wrong with chasing them off. No need for fancy electronics, however. Just a guy walking the beach with a baseball bat should scare the seals off pretty good.

    Not allowed in the canoe

Tip-a-canoe. Didn't we learn about that in History class in high school? Canoe tipping is fun. Just make sure your beer cooler doubles as a flotation device.

Do you stop and enjoy the scenery while hiking?

Enjoying the scenery is the whole point. If you are not going to do that, you might as well just drive to where you are going. The sights, the sounds, the smells, are all the reasons why I go hiking in the first place.

    I don't understand anti-hunters

Some people have such a problem bonding with other people, that they develop a bond with animals instead. Less rejection, I guess. I try to explain to them that if the roles were reversed, that animal is going to hunt, kill, and eat you. So, you might as well be on the winning end of that...

    That one person

How about dry leaves, dry twigs, and a lighter? I am not too shy to bring a lighter with me camping. Sure, I'll try other methods of lighting a fire just to prove I can do it. But when all else fails, I just flip my Bic.

    Any Noodlers here?

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. There is no way in heck that I am going in THAT water to begin with. We have some ponds and lakes around here with water that looks like that. Some kid got the flesh-eating bacteria in his ear swimming in one of the lakes. It got...

    How young is too young

Shoot, I have seen babies camping. Humans used to live like that anyway, and we made it as a species! If the adults know what they are doing, the children will be safe. Just make sure they know not to wander off.

    Bait choices

I tried the shrimp once. We hauled it to the fishing hole in the back of a pick up truck. The smell still got in the truck and it was weeks before it went away entirely. I do not recommend it.

    Zipper Bags

I love zipper bags. Don't skimp, though. Buy name brand ones, especially if you are going to put things like cell phones or cameras in them. If I am going boating and using bags to protect things I do not want to lose, I stuff the bags with floats. The bags don't necesarily stay afloat...

    Lures or live bait?

I prefer live bait. I had a lure as a kid that looked and acting like a bait fish that had been cut if half. It flailed around literally like a fish with its head cut off. Unfortunately, a large something (bass?) took it from me one day. I have never found a lure since that looked like it...

Do you clean your own fish?

I learned how to do this as a kid from my dad. Many places where I fish have someone on shore who will clean your fish for you for a fee. I prefer to clean my own. Partly because spending the money is a waste for me. And, partly because it grosses out my wife and daughters.

What is the best state for camping?

I'm pretty sure it isn't Florida. It gets really muggy and buggy here sometimes. Early spring and mid fall are great times of the year here. The bugs aren't quite as active, and the weather is better. I know north Georgia is nice up in the mountains. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion...

    So here is my problem

Meetup.com is correct. It is a way for people with similar interests to hook up with each other. Doesn't getting older stink sometimes? All that responsibility taking us away from what we REALLY want to do.

What keeps getting in the way?

My bad back. I have been layed up (or down) for a couple of days now. Today is the first day that I can move a little. The pain relievers and muscle relaxers take a toll on me. If not for them, the back pain can be excrutiating.

    Killed A Snake By Mistake

I wouldn't feel too bad about this. In a split second, it is very hard for a novice to tell the difference between a venomous and non-venomous snake. Best to be safe.

    Best survival TV show

I am a Man v Wild fan, but I have not seen Survivorman. If he is truly offering more practical advice and information, I will check out that show.

    Koa

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with KOA - good or bad. My experience with KOA was in Orlando during a camping/Disney adventure. I wont do that again. The KOA campground was too noisy (traffic?) and just did not live up to what a camping experience should be like. The...

    Kites

I have as much luck with kites as Charlie Brown. The one time I invested money in an expensive kite, I crashed it on the first day. I wont do that again.

    mushroom hunters

This is not a good idea. Telling the difference between edible mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms can be incredibly difficult, even for people who know what they are doing.
