    Sand Fleas

I used to love to go to my families place out on a small pond. Lately though it is overrun with sand fleas. They really make it miserable unless you are actually in the water. I've tried spraying the area with Raid but that was useless. I don't want to disturb the delicate ecosystem but I don't...

    easy set up canopy

I want to get one of those ez up canopies. They have them at a local liquidation store for 200.00 but that seems kind of high. Has anyone bought one? How much did you pay? Do they last?

My baby toenail keeps digging into my fourth toe.

It doesn't seem to matter how low I cut it or how wide my shoes are, I have this problem with my baby toenail irritating the toe next to it. It doesn't bother me when I'm just walking about town doing errands but when I'm out on the trail it can turn into a painful bloody mess. I've tried a...

Up sick with my 4 year old son.

My son is feels terrible and can't sleep so I told him we can go out into the living room and he can pick anything he wants to watch from Netflix. My four year old son is now happily sitting on the couch drinking ginger ale and watching Glee. GLEE? When did this happen?

I've never been backpacking but I've always wondered...

...Do you bury your poo? Exactly how does that work? What is the poo etiquette when out on the trail? I've never even camped any place without a toilet so I'm completely ignorant on this subject.

    The sound of running water

I have always felt calmer and happier when I am listening to the sound of running water. A stream is best, but even a fountain in the city does the trick in a pinch. What is it in our evolution that would cause this sound to have such a calming effect?

    Frying over the campfire

Am I the only one here who brings a gallon of oil with me for frying when I go camping? For me it just makes sense since frying does not take long and you don't have to wait for the fire to die down to coals before you start. Anyone else here like to fry foods over the campfire? What do you make?

    Animals chewing you while sleeping?

So I know that in urban areas sometimes rats will chew on people while they are sleeping. Does this happen in the out doors too? When I camp I always stay in a tent. I'm afraid to sleep under the stars because I don't want to get chewed on in the night. Is this a real concern or am I just a...

What's on your Christmas wish list?

I'm hoping that Santa will bring me a new dutch oven and several pair of high quality wool socks. It doesn't take much to make me happy:tinysmile_grin_t:

    Sun ovens

One of the drawbacks to camping is that after you spend all day hiking/boating/fishing/swimming or whatever, you arrive back at your campsite and you're starving but you still have to build a fire and then let the coals get to a good temperature before you can use your dutch oven. A great...

    Alex Honnold on 60 minutes.

Anybody else catch this? My heart was in my nose the whole time watching him climb like that without any safety harness. It was quite amazing but hard to watch at times. I would post a link but I'm not allowed because I'm too new. But if you google Alex Honnold 60 minutes you can check it out.

How often do you replace your hiking shoes?

I replace mine every two years. I'm heavy and I wear ankle braces when I hike and it really takes a toll on my shoes. I know people who have had the same shoes for 10 years and I couldn't imagine that. How often do you all change them? Do you find they lose support over time?

    Red ants ate my tent?!

I was camping in Texas this past summer and the bottom of my tent now looks like swiss cheese. Red ants ate through the bottom of the tent and bit us in the night. Is there a material they can't eat through?
