Haystack Knob/Roaring Plains West Va Backpacking trip June 24th-27th
This is a place only a few dare go to each year.
Haystack Knob at Roaring Plains West Virginia.
We can incorporate this trip with a loop back through the Canyon Rim Trail with even more breath taking views.
I was thinking meeting at the FS road 70. Take Rt 19 up to dolly sods and continue on 19 to intersect FS rd 70 approx 1 1/2 on the left. Its the road just past the First South Prong Trail Head along Rt 19 from Dolly Sods. We can camp at the first open area along FS rd 70 Friday night.
Sat drive on up to the Pipe line on FS 70 and park there early sat morning. Take the Roaring Plains trail in for approx 8 miles and camp near Haystack. Bag Haystack that evening or early Sun Morning pack up and head back to intersect the canyon rim trail and camp somewhere along the rim as far as we can get near the pipe line. We will need to have to carry plenty of water for this day. There are some water sources for Sat we just need to pay attention and be sure and tank up at these areas before we climb the Talus field. We can camp approx 3 miles past the Talus field getting us close to the Pipe line. Monday Morning pack up and make our way to the pipe line back to our vehicles by noon.
