Hello all. Another new guy to the site. I enjoy hiking, car camping, kayaking and backpacking. I have been doing most of these since I was a youngun. (I'm relatively new to kayaking).

I try to get out as much as I can. Currently about once a week. I'm lucky enough to have a few state parks and a large state forest that are local to me. The trail systems in these are very under used and that suits me just fine. I like taking my dogs on my day hikes and I don't want them to be a nuisance to other people so the fewer we encounter that happier we are. It helps that we generally go during the hottest part of the day too.

Hopefully I can learn a bit here. Maybe even find a few new trails to "discover". And who knows, maybe I'll have some little bit of smarts I can share with you all too.

Thank you, all for the words of welcome.
Lamebeaver, I currently live in New England. I did change my profile to reflect my whereabouts. Seemed most likely to be beneficial for folks to know where I'm talking about when I do.

Judy Ann - my eyes are having a little trouble making out the detail your profile picture -
Is that little furball raiding your pack?

I sure hope so cause it made me laugh out loud when I first saw it.

LOL! Hey now, that's Abby. We had hiked close to 8 miles on the AT that day and she was looking for some of her treats! Another pocket holds her water bottle. Pack holds my 10 plus her 3 essentials...food, water, treats!!! It is one of my favorite pics of her!
Bichon Frise dogs are nonsporting, however at 11 she learned to swim, ride in a canoe and escorted me 3 times as I tried to learn to backpack. Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks...both her and her momma!!! Beagles are soon to enter this family I think! :)

What Judy? you don't make her carry her own? :tinysmile_fatgrin_t

Don't let Tank see her getting away with that or he will want me to carry his stuff too.

LOL!!! Oh Grandpa, she's just 15 pounds and her treats, food and such hardly weigh anything. Besides, She is such a good girl at 11. I thought about getting her a pack this past spring, but figured she'd find a way to get into her food or treats one way or the other. Besides, the small packs don't fit her dainty little frame. BTW, what do the Saint Bernards carry in the minature wine casks around their necks? If it isn't a good brandy...

I have no idea what the St Bernards have in that cask, Judy. Although, in my skiing days, I stuck my head in a snowdrift more than once, I was never saved or even offered a frosty beverage from a St Bernard.

Ok, I have to ask since you mentioned it. What kind of kayak do you have and do you do any fishing from it?

Hi Jason
My wife and I have a couple of Pelicans. Nothing sassy, just affordable. Neither of us do any fishing. These are mostly just toys for us to play on the water.
