    Rooaad triiiip!!

I love road trips - leaving for 2 1/2 weeks at the end of this month. I've always wanted to go to Nova Scotia but the Rockies keep calling me back...one of these days!

    Replacing plastic film cans

Hey now, I've been re-using prescription bottles for years! Mostly for batteries, cotton balls, etc. Not sure if they are airtight for spices, though.

    Ferry - ever take one?

My favorite ferry: The one on the Green River near Mammoth Cave :) Used to take them fairly often in Seattle, fun way to travel and get a break from behind the wheel.

Giant Asian tiger prawn invade Gulf waters

Ick. I love shrimp but once they get beyond a certain size, they kind of gross me out. It's that whole "cockroaches of the ocean" thing.

    Glacier Nat. Park next week!

Looks like you had great weather. My only trip to Glacier started on Labor Day and was definitely NOT shorts weather! See any grizzlies on the trail? I'm not sure how well I would sleep in a tent there...

    Camping to save money

I'm with you - I don't camp to save money - I camp to enjoy nature. I enjoy a five star hotel as much as a remote campsite, but nothing is worse than a cheap motel! I usually balance my road trips with a combination of camping nights and hotel nights.

Best way to get my backpack and gear from KY to Glacier N.P.?

Not a bad idea, but of course many people have time constraints and don't want to waste time driving across the plains. I have flown with a backpack before (also a fuel canister - twice! - that I forgot was in a duffel and made it right past TSA both times.) But I've also had my luggage lost...

    Anticipation for Oudoor Adventures

I have almost the opposite problem - nobody wants to plan as far ahead as I do (and most don't understand the need to do so, that things like National Park campsites fill up as soon as the reservation window opens) What works for me is to plan every trip as a solo trip then along the way, i...

What is the worst thing about camping?

One thing I really hate is the combination of sunburn, heat and humidity when camping. I much prefer cool mountain nights to the sticky Midwest summers that we get. I remember laying in my tent on a Wisconsin River sandbar last summer just hot and sticky with no breeze. Still...even that...

    Kayak

It would help to know where you plan to paddle. If you're in Hawaii or Florida, a sit on top could do you year-round. What type of water are you thinking - small lakes, big lakes, rivers, ocean? And how much weight can you comfortably carry and load on to your car? Answers to these questions...

    Calorie Calculator?

Fitday.com and Sparkpeople are both good, free online resources where you can track your calories - both have nutritional values for a TON of foods already and you can also add your own.

    Who Pays on Outdoor Trips?

It's pretty much common courtesy to offer gas money when you're on someone's boat. AND as a guest (at someone's house OR boat) it's impolite to come empty handed - at least bring some beer, food or something. BUT, if you've been letting him get away with this for 30 years, he probably sees...

    Waterfalls

There are probably waterfalls in every state - would probably help if you narrow your field a bit! Yellowstone does have some good ones, as does Colorado. Yosemite is known for its waterfalls and the Pacific Northwest is scenic, too.

    Photography

Yes, I've always loved having pictures and photo albums to remember a trip by. I upgraded to an SLR about 2 years ago. I love scenery shots and wildlife, as well as trying to capture night scenes. Haven't been able to capture star trails yet, but am working towards it! (Not very dark where I...

    Wilderness Therapy?

I agree, for some people. I have not been getting outdoors lately, most of the winter actually, and it's really put me into a funk. Even just a short hike on Saturday lifted my spirits greatly. But, as already mentioned, it's not for everyone. Many women feel much better after spending money...

    Cold Water

I'm with Tristan - I hate cold water! I'd rather stink than bathe in a cold lake or stream!

    Worse day!

Oh, man, so sorry to read this. My dog is on the verge and I've just been a basket case for the last two weeks - every other day is a good one and the opposite days I think I'm going to have to make that decision. Part of me hopes he will go in his sleep so I don't have to choose for him...

    Facebook

LOL! For the babies and dogs, this goes for Facebook or any other photo sharing medium. Why post 500 pictures of your trip to Disney, including the blurry ones and ones with your thumb covering 1/2 the picture? I find that very frustrating as I spend a good deal of time making sure I am...

    Facebook

I find myself using it less and less as the algorithms force me to see the same few people's updates over and over. But, I still find it to be a great way to keep in touch with family and friends as well as sharing pictures of our adventures. As for the oversharing, I recently deleted two...

It sounds like we may cross paths - if the dates work out, I may join Double Cabin as well for that trip. Let's keep in touch either way and see. If I don't do Double Cabins' trip, I'll be in RMNP for a few days and then hiking some 14'ers hopefully. I meant to tell you - many of the National...
